Baseball fans will be transported to Colonial-era New Jersey on Thursday, June 14 as the Somerset Patriots celebrate Revolutionary Spirit night against the York Revolution at TD Bank Park in Bridgewater, NJ. This Flag Day event combines America’s pastime with the spirit of independence!
Attendees at the 7:05 p.m. game will step into the past with hands-on demonstrations and conversations with a number of costumed reenactors including George Washington (John Godzieba), Ben Franklin (Mike Kochan), Francis Hopkinson (Stanley Saperstein), and Somerville’s official Town Crier, Lazarus Turner (David Lang). Fans will also be greeted by a Revolutionary encampment by the 2nd NJ as well as the Sable Soldiers of the American Revolution and see 18th century demonstrations including mock hearth cooking, spinning and weaving, colonial medicine and surgery, and colonial ice cream making. There will also be a number of history exhibitors and activities and experiences for kids during the evening including toy musket drills for kids lead by interpreters.
The first 500 kids through the turnstiles will receive a replica of the United States’ first flag, the Francis Hopkinson Flag. The night is co-sponsored by the Somerset Patriots and Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area with support from the Washington Association of New Jersey.
Tickets for the game are available through the Somerset Patriots website www.somersetpatriots.com, or by calling (908) 252-0700.
