1:30PM – Presentation by Matthew Skic: Philadelphia’s Newest Gem: The Museum of the American Revolution
On April 19, 2017, the Museum of the American Revolution opened with great fanfare in the heart of historic Philadelphia. Assistant Curator Matthew Skic will present the history of the project to create this new institution and discuss highlights from the Museum’s main exhibit and collection, including General George Washington’s tent.
Matthew Skic grew up in the Harbourton section of Hopewell Township and developed a lasting passion for the history of Colonial America and the early United States. He attended Hopewell Valley Central High School and began working as an historical interpreter at Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville each summer. Matthew earned his B.A. in History at American University in Washington, DC. He then completed his graduate studies as a fellow in the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture and earned an M.A. from the University of Delaware. Since June 2016, he has worked as Assistant Curator at the brand-new Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia.
