Mauricetown Historical Society’s Founder’s Day celebration will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018. The event will be at 10:00am at the Society’s headquarters located at 1229 Front Street in Mauricetown, Commercial Township, Cumberland County.
The town wishes to honor the men and women who through their tireless dedication have made enormous contributions to the preservation and protection of the historic and cultural heritage of our beautiful, bucolic village. Thirty-five years ago, they embarked on a project to restore an historic building in our town. The building was in an advanced state of disrepair from age and neglect, but they saw something most people would not. Now that old dilapidated building is restored to its former glory and serves as the home to our society and is the jewel of our historic village. This restoration, the result of a lot of hard work, selfless dedication, fundraising and their own money is now complete. Their efforts continue today. These founders spearheaded the recently successful effort, with students from the University of Delaware, to add portions of our village to the State and National Register of Historic Places. We would like to honor these visionaries for all they have done for our town. To that end, we plan a celebration to recognize them and thank them for their efforts on behalf of our old-time shipping community.
