The Metlar-Bodine House Museum Presents: Envisioning New Jersey: An Illustrated History of the Garden State

On November 19, 2017, Dr. Maxine Lurie will give a presentation on Envisioning New Jersey: An Illustrated History of the Garden State, at the Metlar-Bodine House Museum.

Envisioning New Jersey: An Illustrated History of the Garden State is an overview of New Jersey’s history from the prehistoric era to the present. The images of politicians, religious institutions, ethnic groups, farms and factories provide a fresh take at how the Garden State has evolved. From its rich Native American heritage, it’s pivotal role in the American Revolution, debates over slavery, the rise of industrialization, the advancements in transportation (turnpikes, canals, etc.), the creation of utopian communities and the growth of shore communities, the rise of the Ku Klux Klan after WWI to suburban development and decline of its cities, all have contributed to the multifaceted state in which we live. The book by Dr. Lurie and Dr. Richard Veit, was published by Rutgers University Press: 2016. To register on-line click here.

A flyer from Rutgers University Press – offering a 30% book discount off the purchase price – can be downloaded & printed from the museum’s website. A limited amount of flyers will be available at the presentation.
