Tales of the Macabre at Mrs. Kearney’s Tavern
October 27 at 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
One event on October 28, 2017 at 8:00pm
On Halloween weekend, guests will have a chance to delve into another aspect of nineteenth-century life, in which the tavern was a popular place for people to gather and share the latest in the printed word. From 8 to 10 on the evenings of Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28, guests will thrill to classic tales of horror by Edgar Allan Poe read aloud — as was commonly done by the fireside at homes and taverns across America. The evening will include mulled cider heated over the hearth and light refreshments. The texts will be selected and read by Kearney House director Eric Nelsen, who noted that the program “helps bring to life a sometimes forgotten aspect of the world before television and other mass media.”
The “Tales of the Macabre” programs are from 8 to 10 PM. The fee is $8 per guest if reserved in advance through PayPal, or $10 at the door (if spaces remain). Guests over 21 are welcome to bring their own beer or wine to the programs.
