Trenton Battle Monument

Trenton Battle Monument

Marking the high ground where Washington’s artillery fired upon the Hessians during the Battle of Trenton on December 26, 1776, the lofty Trenton Battle Monument commemorates the opening salvo of the “Ten Crucial Days” following the long American retreat across New Jersey. From the observation platform visitors can look down the same streets that Patriot cannon raked with murderous fire as the Hessian garrison unsuccessfully strove to organize its defense. The 148-foot monument is crowned by a statue of a victorious George Washington.
