New Jersey’s strategic location near the center of the American Colonies combined with opportunities for access, provisioning, and defense provided by its countryside resulted in an inordinate amount of Revolutionary War action across its landscape.

This guide takes you on a tour of places that witnessed the Revolutionary War – the buildings, battlefields, homes, and encampments. They provide a concrete connection to the spirit that gave birth to a nation – a spirit that lives on today.Most of the sites in this guide are listed on State and National Registers of Historic Places. Those designated a national Historic Landmark are marked as NHL. This designation indicates a site of exceptional national significance. The sites are grouped thematically, in ways that tell different aspects of the stories of the Crossroads of the American Revolution.

National Passport Program
Record your visit to the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area with special passport cancellation stamps, available at selected cultural heritage sites. The cancellation lists the site and the date as a memento of your visit.
