  Join the Bergen County Historical Society for a birthday celebration of Major General Baron von Steuben's birthday at his Jersey Estate. The Zabriskie-Steuben House is the only extant building in the US that Steuben owned. Picket-fence Beer Garden, Music by the Long Hill String Band. Mott's Artillery will be in the field with cannon. Come Home to History Don N. Hagist will speak on his most recent  book, The Revolution’s Last Men: The Soldiers behind the Photographs. His research features 6 veterans through photographs and history. BCHS daguerreotype collection on exhibit. Tours of museum buildings including barn & children’s activities. All three sandstone houses, including the Steuben House, a state historic site, are connected by an ADA compliant gravel walking path. The 241st Anniversary of the British Invasion & American Retreat from Fort Lee to New Bridge, The Bridge That Saved A Nation. On November 20th, 1776, five thousand British, Hessian and Loyalist troops, under command of Lt. Gen. Lord Cornwallis, scaled the Palisades at Lower Closter Dock and marched against Fort Lee. Warned by an alert officer, the American garrison escaped entrapment by safely crossing the Hackensack River at New Bridge, now known as the Bridge That Saved a Nation,…
