Take part in “Find Your Park” at Morristown National Historical Park (NHP) during National Park Week, April 15th through 23rd.
In this 101st year of the National Park Service’s history, Morristown NHP invites you to discover some of the “America’s Stories 101” learning and adventure opportunities that are right here at your neighborhood national park.
In addition to a variety of scheduled activities, all entrance fees at the Washington’s Headquarters Museum will be waived on the weekend days, Saturday and Sunday, April 15th and 16th; and Saturday and Sunday, April 22nd and 23rd. Details of the planned special programs are listed below.
9:30 am – 5 pm, April 15th – April 23rd: Treasured Landscapes Exhibit in the Washington’s Headquarters Museum; 30 Washington Place, Morristown, New Jersey
The five paintings and prints exhibited are included in a new book published by the National Park Service’s Museum Management Program, Treasured Landscapes: National Park Service Art Collections Tell America’s Stories. It highlights art collections from the nation’s over 400 national parks; the artwork presented in the book is a testament to the pervasive power of the natural and built environment we all can claim as our collective legacy. The Treasured Landscapes publication is available in our museum store.

Take advantage of the free admission on Saturday, April 15th, and visit the Washington’s Headquarters Museum to earn your Junior Ranger Badge!
10 am – 4 pm, Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23rd: Jockey Hollow Encampment Weekend
Costumed re-enactors return to Jockey Hollow for the park’s annual Encampment Weekend. Events during the weekend help you experience the life of a Jockey Hollow soldier during the spring of 1780. Throughout the encampment site you will encounter many parts of camp life including cooking demonstrations, children’s musket drills, and 18th-century games. Additionally, re-enactor soldier regiments will demonstrate various Revolutionary War tactics and maneuvers, including musket and artillery firing. Detailed schedules of each day’s encampment activities will be available at the event.
At 3:30 pm on Saturday, April 22nd, author Jeff E. Finegan Sr. will discuss his two books, Colonel Washington and Me and ‘Tis Well … The Life and Death of George Washington. The books focus, respectively, on the life of George Washington as seen through the eyes of his enslaved assistant, William Lee, and as witnessed by physician James Craik. Meet in the Jockey Hollow Visitor Center. Both books will be available for purchase.

2 pm, Sunday, April 23rd: Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey Concert in the Washington’s Headquarters Museum; 30 Washington Place, Morristown, New Jersey
Cap off your National Park Week celebration by discovering a unique New Jersey treasure. The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey (BONJ) will perform Mark Twain and the General, an original composition by BONJ Maestro Robert W. Butts. On exhibit during the program will be a number of Morristown NHP’s Twain manuscripts from the park’s rich cultural resources collection. Admission to the program is free, included as a National Park Week fee-free day.
