57th Annual Reenactment of the Colonel Hand March
Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Don’t miss the 57th Annual Reenactment of the Col. Hand March on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 10am. An unsung hero, is Edward Hand, colonel of the 1st Pennsylvania Regiment, saw action in all three engagements of the Ten Crucial Days campaign. This event is a commemoration of Colonel Edward Hand’s Delaying Actions on the Maidenhead – Trenton Road on January 2nd, 1777. Historical programming and musket firings take place at the Municipal Center before a two-mile march along the historic highway leads to a cannon fire at the Shabakunk Creek (Notre Dame HS). For more information contact the Lawrence Township Recreation Department at (609) 844-7067.
Both Lawrence Township and the Lawrence Historical Society participate in the National Park Service’s Passport to Your Park (R) Program. Lawrence Township is the proud home of two NPS affiliate units — Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area (all of Lawrence Township) and the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail (present day US-206 corridor). In addition to stamps for both units, they have several special events Passport Stamps only available late December to early January — Colonel Hand Historic March, Edward Hand’s Birthday – December 31, 1744, and Hogmanay at 1761 Brearley House.
David Brearley, NJ Signer of the U.S. Constitution, was born at Spring Grove in Maidenhead (now Lawrence Township). Spring Grove is still extant and, yes, we have a Passport Stamp for David Brearley, too!
Both Lawrence Township and the Lawrence Historical Society are Heritage Partners with the Crossroads of the American Revolution.
