Breakfast Before the Battle…of Bound Brook!
Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 8:00 am - 9:30 am$20.00
The Battle of Bound Brook occurred on April 13th 1777 . Hessians and British converged on the Phillip Van Horne House early Easter morning with intent to capture General Benjamin Lincoln housed at the Van Horne’s. Awakened at the last minute, General Lincoln escaped to the army to fight the British out of the Van Horne House and back to New Brunswick taking with them the prize of 3 cannons on the Van Horne property.
The Breakfast being prepared for General Lincoln that morning was enjoyed by General Lord Cornwallis. As the British and Hessians departed, the dinner cooked to General Cornwallis’ specifications was enjoyed by Generals Green and Lincoln. In honor of this event, we celebrate with a breakfast and program before the Battle reenactment. This year, a full waffle bar awaits our guests and afterward a 45 minute program “The Battle of Bound Brook, I Was There” by Lazarus Turner (aka David Lang), eyewitness. Mr. Turner will immerse listeners in the colonial life of Somerset County in 1777, during this often overlooked Revolutionary War battle. Decide if you are a Patriot or Loyalist and experience 18th century patriotism!
Admission: 20.00-adults and 5.00-children 10 and under
