Brigid’s Day and Candlemas

Come celebrate Brigid’s Day and Candlemas with the Bergen County Historical Society on Sunday January 28th, 1 pm- 4:30 pm at Historic New Bridge Landing 1201 Main Street, River Edge NJ.

At 2 pm sit in the main room of the state historic 1752 Steuben House and listen flutist Anwar “Notes” Overton as he plays to Irish tunes on the flute.

New exhibits from BCHS’s collections will also be on display in the Steuben House including selections of their salt glazed pottery and early chairs of Bergen County.

All three-18th century Jersey Dutch sandstone houses are open for tours throughout the day with knowledgeable interpreters who will share stories about the lives of earlier Bergen residents.

Take a peek at the treasures in the gift shop while you enjoy donuts and hot cider which will be available for purchase inside the tavern.

Don’t forget to visit the society’s authentic Jersey-Dutch out-kitchen where interpreters will be demonstrating the 18th century craft of candle making using authentic materials.

Activities for families including corn husk Brigid’s cross and doll making will be available throughout the afternoon.

Ticket reservations are encouraged: $12 adults, $7 students, BCHS members free.

Free parking available on site or take the train to the “New Bridge Landing” station on the Pascack Valley Line.

Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.
