Glenbrook Brewery, 95 Morris Street, Morristown, NJ 07960
Representing the Spanish Crown to the Continental Congress, Don Juan de Miralles of Cuba played an important yet often overlooked role in America’s fight for independence. During the American Revolution, his diplomatic presence highlighted international support that strengthened the Continental cause and built crucial relationships across cultural boundaries.
Paul F. Soltis, historian for Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites, reads and discusses the correspondence shared between Don Juan de Miralles and George Washington, remembering the life and death of Don Juan in New Jersey and exploring Spanish and Hispanic contributions to the American Revolution.
Glenbrook Brewery courteously hosts this event offered in conjunction with Dia de Muertos in Morristown.
Nearly 250 years after Don Juan de Miralles visited George Washington’s Middlebrook Headquarters in 1779, the Wallace House is under construction again as part of Down the Brook: The Revitalization of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites for Revolution NJ. The historic rehabilitation of Wallace House is supported in part by a Semiquincentennial Grant from the Historic Preservation Fund administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
⭐ Revolution NJ is New Jersey’s official observance of the 250th anniversaries of New Jersey’s first Constitution July 2, 2026 and the American Revolution in New Jersey from 2024 – 2033.
