Finding Your Female Ancestors

NJ State Genealogy Librarian Regina Fitzpatrick to speak at the Strauss Mansion Museum

Are you trying to research a female ancestor from New Jersey and don’t know where to start?

Regina Fitzpatrick, Genealogy Librarian at the New Jersey State Library, will give a talk at the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society on Wednesday, April 17 at 7:00 pm. She will review how to find women in popular New Jersey genealogical collections. We will learn smart research strategies within individual collections and more about collections you may not have thought to check for your ancestor.

“Marriages, immigration, and misspellings can all lead one to a roadblock when trying to fill out your family tree” says Jean Howson, Vice President of the AHHS. “Today so many people are exploring their heritage with ancestry kits and online searches. Regina will explain to our audience the resources and ways to search for your roots with historical records. She’s a professional and can lead the amateur through the process for their own discovery.”

Regina Fitzpatrick is Genealogy Librarian at the NJ State Library. In addition to the Genealogy Collection, a non-circulating 18,000 plus item collection, she also oversees the Map and Atlas Collection, and the New Jersey State Library Archives collection. Prior to working at the Library, Regina worked for the New Jersey State Archives, where she became an expert on New Jersey Genealogical Collections, including Revolutionary and Civil War military collections, and helping to conduct family history research. At the State Library, Regina currently provides general Reference Services, in addition to specific Genealogy assistance, and teaches classes on conducting New Jersey Genealogy research.

This program on Wednesday, April 17 is free and starts at 7:30pm. Refreshments will be served and coffee is provided by 1st Cup.

The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society is located at the Strauss Mansion Museum, 27 Prospect Circle, Atlantic Highlands. The Queen Anne style home is a museum, library and event space open on the weekends from noon-4:00pm.
