History in Monmouth: Major General Charles Lee: Hero or Traitor?

Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 7:00 pm

The most controversial leader on either side at the battle of Monmouth was American Major General Charles Lee. As commander of the American advanced forces during the first half of the fight, he is accused by some historians of almost losing the battle, while other authors claim that he saved the day not once but twice. Dr. David Martin, popular lecturer and President of the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield, will discuss and assess General Lee’s critical influence on the battle, with particular attention to Lee’s own statements at his court martial proceedings.
Join the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield during their Annual Reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth. The dates of the 241st Anniversary of this Battle are June 22 and 23, 2019.
