Lord Stirling Manor Archaeological Site

Somerset County is pleased to announce a partnership with Hunter Research, Inc., and
Monmouth University to present a public archaeology program at Lord Stirling Manor. This
initiative is a result of our newly established archaeological field school, where undergraduate
and graduate students will be conducting excavations on the property this summer. The public
is invited to visit an active archaeological investigation at the former home of Revolutionary
War general William Alexander, known as “Lord Stirling,” to participate. Please park at the
Lord Stirling Trail Head: 87 Lord Stirling Road, Basking Ridge, New Jersey 07920.
Children are welcome to attend under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Due to the
site’s sensitivity, we ask that the public refrain from visiting the site beyond these times for
the duration of the project
