New Jersey’s Trio of Continental Army Generals

Of the seventy-eight men appointed as Continental Army generals during the Revolutionary War, three were from New Jersey (NJ). This presentation will examine that trio of William Alexander (Lord Stirling), William Maxwell, and Elias Dayton. We will explore their history and background, their experience as combat generals, and their successes and failures. What did Washington and their contemporaries think of them and how does history rate these Jersey boys? As the 250th celebration begins, learn about these early New Jersey leaders.
