Winter in the Pines

Batsto Village will be alive with music, history, and a variety of activities!
The Batsto Citizens Committee, Inc. (BCCI) will host a holiday celebration; “Winter In the Pines “on Sunday, December 2nd at Historic Batsto Village.
The headline event of the day will be a holiday musical presentation performed by the Danny K Trio from 1PM – 1:50 PM in the Batsto Visitor Center auditorium. There is a $5.00 / person admission fee for the show.
Carriage rides through the village; conducted by the South Jersey Carriage Company, will commence at 12:00 PM and continue until 3:45 PM. There is a $3.00 / person charge and the beautiful Victorian design carriage will wind its way around several of the buildings located in the upper village. A second carriage is planned to be onsite this year to support the increasing interest of carriage rides at Batsto.
Adding to the festive atmosphere of the day, carolers from the Aurora Choir of St. Nick’s Church in Egg Harbor City; dressed in period garb, will stroll the village entertaining visitors with songs of the season.
The stately Batsto mansion; dressed in the splendor of the winter season, will be available to tour. There is a $3.00 / person charge for tours.
Adding to the spirit of the season a flute ensemble will play from the south parlor as visitors tour the historic mansion, first constructed and occupied by the Richards family and later owned by Joseph Wharton.
The famous Batsto Post Office will be open to hand cancel holiday mail in the tradition of Batsto…with no zip code! Due to its age and historical significance, a zip code is not required to be part of the hand postmark cancellation at the Batsto Post Office; first opened in 1852.
Blacksmith Toby Kroll of Three Cedars Forge will demonstrate some of the techniques and tools of the trade in the Batsto blacksmith and wheelwright shop.
Light refreshments will be served in the Exhibit Room that adjoins the Batsto Post Office. Several displays for both adults and children are available for viewing.
The Batsto Museum Shop will also be open to assist with your holiday shopping needs. A large selection of pinelands books, jewelry, ornaments, apparel and many other pinelands related gifts are available for purchase.

Located eight miles east of Hammonton on New Jersey Route 542, Batsto Village is a New Jersey historic site located in the south central Pinelands. Administered by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Parks & Forestry, this site is nationally recognized for its historical significance and beauty. The roots of Batsto Village can be traced back to 1766. Two centuries of American history are available to visitors, with the Pinelands environment as a scenic backdrop.

The Batsto Citizens Committee was founded in 1956 to aid the State of New Jersey in the development of Batsto Village as a historic site. Its purpose was to advise, assist and promote the restoration and interpretation of the historic and natural aspects of Batsto Village.
