240th Anniversary of the March to Yorktown Celebration in Westfield

Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 11:00 am - Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 2:00 pm

Help commemorate the 240th anniversary of the day that French and American troops passed through Westfield on their march to Yorktown, VA.

Join revelers at Upper Mindowaskin Park, Broad Street, Westfield on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 11:00AM for a celebration ceremony followed by a parade through downtown. Meet historical interpreters representing the troops and cheer on the parade down Broad Street! Bring your American and French flags to wave as the troops pass.

This event commemorates, to the day, 240 years ago, when a column of the Continental Army passed through Westfield, including the integrated 1st Rhode Island Regiment. The march, led by Continental Army General George Washington and French General comte de Rochambeau, ultimately led to Yorktown, VA for the October battle in which the combined forces defeated the British to virtually end the American Revolution.
