Battle of Chestnut Neck commemoration
Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10:00 am - 10:30 am
The Col. Richard Somers chapter of the New Jersey Sons of the American Revolution will host a commemoration of the Battle of Chestnut Neck at the Battle Monument in Port Republic.
The SAR Color Guard, in period uniforms, will lead a memorial service to remember and honor about 23 men from Atlantic County who were wounded, killed or made prisoners of war during the seven years of the American Revolution. A brief presentation will explain Atlantic County’s status as one of the busiest privateering locations during the war for independence, leading to the October 6, 1778 conflict at Chestnut Neck in which a mobilization of British soldiers burned the 13-building village.
Please visit the Col Richard Somers SAR website for more details. COVID-19 social distancing guidelines will be observed; please be sure to wear face coverings.
