New Jersey Blacksmith Association – Exploring Dutch Colonial Hardware
Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 10:00 am - 4:00 pmFree
Jonathan Nedbor will lead a program focusing on hand forged hardware of the Dutch Colonial period. He will forge various pieces of hardware typical of that time period, and as a group, we will tour the buildings at EJOT to see what period hardware we can discover. The discussions will touch on the styles of hardware found in the region, tips on forging accurate historic reproductions and relating all of this to the hardware we find on site at the museum.
Jonathan has been metalsmithing since 1971, first as a jeweler, then working as a welder and sculpture fabricator in steel and other metals. He has a studio where he does commissioned ironwork of all kinds, including hearth and fireplace equipment, furniture, lighting, railings, and tools. Jonathan has taught metalsmithing at many craft schools and demonstrated for numerous blacksmith groups around the country.
For over 45 years Jonathan has been accurately reproducing period hardware for museums and private homes, many of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. He has made a study of the iron hardware of the Dutch Colonial period as found in the Hudson Valley of New York and surrounding areas.
