Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 2:00 pm on day First of the month, repeating until Sunday, December 5, 2021
The Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood invites you to visit the Osborn Cannonball House to discover the community’s Revolutionary era history as experienced by the home’s original owners.
Learn the story of Jonathan and Abagail Osborn, their thirteen children and how the onset of the war for independence affected their family and their home. Following the June 1777 Battle of the Short Hills at nearby Ash Swamp, Continental troops retreated past the home to the safety of the Watchung Mountains.
Today the old Osborn place has been carefully restored and furnished by the Historical Society of Scotch Plains and Fanwood. Visitors can readily see the original wide floor boards and hand hewn ceiling beams. The original kitchen has been uncovered complete with bee-hive oven and recessed porch. One of the old parlors is furnished with Victorian pieces and the other front room is decorated with Colonial furnishings. A Colonial flower and herb garden surrounds this little house, giving it the dignity and prestige its years deserve.
