Veterans Day commemoration at historic Whippany Burial Yard
Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Hanover Township Landmark Commission will host a Veterans Day commemoration at the Whippany Burial Yard on November 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
The 301 year-old site on Route 10 is the first Burying Yard, church, school, military training ground, and known grave in Northwest New Jersey. It contains the burial plots of soldiers who fought in the French and Indian, Revolutionary and Civil Wars, among others.
The November 9 ceremony will include speeches from Hanover Township veterans who served in the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq. The names of each of the veterans buried on the grounds will be read, with a bell tolled for each.
Scouts from Hanover Township will conduct the flag ceremony.
Attendees are asked to park in the Casa de Montecristo parking lot next to the burial yard.
There will be a guided tour after the ceremony. Light refreshments will be served.
