Women in Union County History
Friday, March 3, 2023 at 11:30 am - 1:30 pmFree
Celebrate women’s history! Photographer lecture and meet & greet.
Nancy Ori of Berkeley Heights, well-known photographer, author, and educator is presenting a series of images about Women in Union County History. The body of work that currently covers the walls of the Anne Louise Davis gallery has been edited down to the story of women in Union County in a free slide presentation and lecture.
The images provide a balance of subject matter between the architecture, furniture, costumes, and artifacts that reflect the women and young girls who lived, worked, and played in Union County in earlier times. Some images are romantic in style and provide a contrast to the bold forms of kitchen tools and objects presented almost as sculptures, while some are of artistically composed room set-ups to provide more formal images and stories.
Popular locations such as Liberty Hall in Union, the Deacon Andrew Hetfield House in Mountainside, and the Drake House Museum in Plainfield, as well as the smaller historical sites of the Eaton Store Museum in Hillside and the Carter House in Summit are only a few of the locations featured in Ori’s lecture.
Nancy Ori is recognized internationally as an architectural and landscape photographer as well as instructor for New Jersey Media Center, LLC in Berkeley Heights. She teaches for several local art institutions as well as an international photography tour company. In 1995, she co-founded the New Jersey Photography Forum, a group of professional and serious amateur photographers who get together regularly to critique each other’s work and exhibit together locally. Under Nancy’s direction, the Forum has grown to be the largest group of exhibiting fine art photographers in the state.
The exhibition ends on Saturday, March 11, 2023.
