Prince Rodgers Military Family & Black Soldiers of the American Revolution and Civil War

Reenactors of the 6th Regiment of U.S. Colored Troops salute Prince Rodgers and Black Soldiers of the Civil War in the historic setting of Prince Rodgers Cemetery.
The reception includes a special viewing of “Oh, Freedom! Blacks on the Battlefront and in the Aftermath of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey,” a traveling exhibit from New Jersey State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites exploring the service of Black Americans in the American Revolution as background to the contributions of the Prince Rodgers family in the Civil War.
The Prince Rodgers Foundation, Inc. hosts this memorial and living history event in cooperation with Somerset Patriots, Somerset County Historical Society and N.J. Department of Environmental Protection.
Historical reenactors of the 6th Regiments are presented by the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association with the sponsorship of New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission.
