Having passed through American and British hands on more than one occasion during the Revolutionary War, the Old Barracks eventually became an American military hospital until war’s end. Following the war the building went through many transformations before painstaking renovations were initiated in the early 1900s. The final phases of restoration were completed in 1998. Maintaining the Barracks in its traditional state helps set the stage for visitors who wish to step back into the era of the American Revolution and learn more about the early history of the United States.
