Van Wickle House – Somerset, NJ
The Van Wickle house was built in 1722 by Symen Van Wickle. Symen Van Wickle’s father, Evert Van Winkle, owned roughly 800 acres of land around the Raritan River. British troops occupied Van Wickle landholdings when they were encamped at Raritan Landing for several months in the late winter and spring of 1777. A combination of Dutch, Flemish, and English architecture native to the New York/ New Jersey area, the house was erected using massive post and beam construction and sits on a sold stone foundation. The house is owned by the non-profit Meadows Foundation which hosts several events there throughout the year
