Don’t miss Montclair History Center’s homeschool history series starting this October. There are two great offerings available including hearth cooking for kids and history makers. For more information on these 6 week classes see below and visit montclairhistory.org.

Homeschool Series Hearth Cooking for Kids

This 6-week hearth cooking class takes children through food preservation, learning how to use tools and working on a real hearth fire, creating recipes from historic cookbooks, and creativity in using seasonable food items. Each class begins with a lesson around our food history and hands on activities in hearth. Children are encouraged to use creativity and decision making for their recipes each week. This cooking class will use ingredients such as flour, eggs, and dairy. For any food allergies or restrictions please notify staff and discuss at registration. Program appropriate for ages 10 to 14. Children will be working with real kitchen tools and assisting with the hearth fire. As class space is limited, registration is required to hold your space. Cost is $150 per child for the entire series ($125 if you hold a family membership with the history center) individual class registration is not available. Class size is limited. Program held on Thursdays October 4, 11, 18 & November 1, 8, 15 form 1 to 3 pm. All sessions begin in the hearth kitchen of the Crane House/Historic YWCA at 110 Orange Road, Montclair. Register at www.montclairhistory.org.

Homeschool Series History Makers

Our 6-week sessions are sure to get your child excited about history through adventures and craft projects, hands-on moments with special artifacts, and cool facts about Montclair and NJ history! We’ll pair a craft or activity associated with a discussion topic and learn about our rich history before getting hands on. Our goal is to use crafting to expose children to learning about history in fun and creative way without the textbook. As class space is limited, registration is required to hold your space. Ages 6 to 9, if your child falls outside of this age range please contact our staff to discuss enrollment. Cost is $60 per child for the entire series ($50 if you hold a family Membership with the history center); individual class registration is not available. All sessions are located in the program room of the Crane House/Historic YWCA at 110 Orange Road, Montclair unless noted in the class outline. Register at www.montclairhistory.org.
