Congratulations to the General William Maxwell Chapter for winning third place in the Eastern Division of the Historic Preservation Project Contest! Their project titled, “General Maxwell Restoration,” focused on restoring General William Maxwell’s grave as well as the graves of his brothers, Capt. John and Lt. Robert and their wives, to their original glory in Old Greenwich Cemetery in Stewartsville, NJ. The Chapter, steadfast in their mission to renovate the graves and honor the Revolutionary War hero, raised $12,000 and worked tirelessly for three years to complete this project. The Historic Preservation Committee highlighted their work as a “beautiful example of the restoration of an important historic site.” The Committee also called the restoration work and the Remembrance Ceremony “noteworthy and very touching.”
